The Chinese character “喜” (xǐ) means “joy” in English. The character “囍”is actually a Chinese ligature composed of two characters of “喜”, and compressed to assume the square shape of a standard Chinese character. This ligature is being read as “双喜” (shuāngxǐ), which literally means “Double Happiness”.
