SG Orchid (Series 1)
A hybrid orchid between the Burmese Vanda teres and the Malayan Vanda hookeriana, the Vanda (Miss Joaquim) was bred by horticulturist Agnes Joaquim and chosen as Singapore national flower in 1981. This makes Singapore unique as it the only country in the world to have a hybrid as a national flower. This robust free-flowering plant has long been a symbol of love and beauty, making it an elegant addition to any gold collection.
Merlion is one of the icons in Singapore, the unique creature consists of a head of a lion and a body of a fish.
It is said to be that the fish body represents Singapore's origin as a fishing village when it was called “Temasek” which means "sea town" in Javanese. The lion head represents Singapore's original name—Singapura —meaning "lion city”.
